SHREVEPORT, LA – Wilna Corene “Grammy” Sneed, known to many as “Jump,” 90, passed away peacefully September 1, 2012, at Christus Schumpert-Highland Hospital after a long, blessed life. She was surrounded by her loved ones who rejoiced in the memories of an amazing woman who touched the lives of many. Her legacy is that of a kind heart, gentle spirit, and quiet strength. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Osborn Funeral Home on Southern Avenue. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Kings Highway Christian Church in Shreveport with a graveside service immediately following at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue. Dr. David Brice will officiate. Music will be by Mrs. Louise Chamberlain. Honoring Corene as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Jody Sepulvado, Chad Sepulvado, Matt Sneed, Dave Anderson, Dylan Magluilo, and long time family friend Brian Gallien.
Corene was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on May 30, 1922, and was a resident of Shreveport for the majority of her life. She was a graduate of the Tri-State nursing program, where she earned her registered nurse designation. For 25 years, she was a floor nurse at P&S Hospital and was the first Diabetic Educator in the Shreveport area. Corene was named “Nurse of the Year” in 1981 while at P&S Hospital and went on to Schumpert Hospital as both a floor RN and nurse for the diabetes program. After retiring the first time, she elected to return to the healthcare field as a diabetic education nurse for 5 years. She finally retired at the age of 75 but continued a life-long love of books, plants, church, family, and friends. She was an active member of the Kings Highway Christian Church, Service (Sunday School) Class and the Shreveport Chapter of the DAR.
Grammy will always be remembered as a beloved wife, treasured mother, and inspiring grandmother. She is survived by her son Willard Mac Sneed; daughter Wilna Sneed Sepulvado and husband Joe; daughter Paula Sneed Pope and husband David, all of Shreveport; honorary son, Dr. Arvis “Buddy” Irvin and wife Donna of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren Jody Sepulvado and wife Donnese, Robin Mooring, Chad Sepulvado and wife Courtney, Matt Sneed, Carla Sepulvado Anderson and husband David, Bridget Kilpatrick Magluilo and husband Dylan; great-grandchildren Max Mooring-Lee, Reed Sepulvado, Owen Sepulvado, Sasha Anderson, and Stormy Magluilo.
Grammy was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 55 years, William J. “Papa” Sneed, and grandson, Isaac R. Pope.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the concern and support provided by her friends and church family and to the doctors and nurses at Shreveport Internal Medicine and Highland Hospital for their compassionate care. We are especially grateful for Lora Murray, Corene’s long-time friend and caregiver for the entire family, and for Sillia Hudson, Corene’s very special friend and caregiver in her final years.
